Full review underway after second PPE breach confirmed at Royal Perth Hospital

A second PPE breach involving a COVID-19 patient has been revealed at Royal Perth Hospital.

The Health Department has confirmed a staff member removed their mask “prematurely” before they left the patient’s room yesterday.

East Metropolitan Health Service chief executive Liz MacLeod confirmed it was a breach of the hospital’s processes.

“The breach occurred yesterday afternoon was immediately detected and relevant processes enacted to ensure the safety of other staff, patients and the community,” she said.

The staff member involved has been ordered into self-quarantine. Ms MacLeod said they were being monitored daily and a review would be carried out into the hospital’s procedures.
