Man treated on the beach after suspected reef shark bite at Dampier

A man was bitten by a suspected reef shark on Monday afternoon just south of the boat ramp in the coastal Pilbara town of Dampier.

He was treated on a beach for injuries from a bite to his foot at about 3.40pm.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is assisting in the incident.

The public is being warned to take extra caution around the Dampier area and adhere to any beach closures.

People can stay informed on shark activity by visiting the Surf Life Saving Twitter feed and the SharkSmart website or App.

If you see a shark you can also report it to Water Police on 9442 8600.
